Pedro Wirz builds sculptures and installations in which natural growth and manufactured objects become difficult to separate. Soil, beeswax, discarded textiles, glass, bronze, and synthetic materials meet in forms that suggest nests, eggs, bodies, and shelters. These combinations connect questions of ecology to the stories through which people understand their surroundings.

Born in Pindamonhangaba, Brazil, in 1981, Wirz lives and works in Zurich. His practice draws on the environments and folklore of Brazil’s Paraíba Valley, while attending to the circulation, transformation, and afterlives of materials. Across individual objects and immersive exhibitions, familiar substances acquire uncertain identities: protective and vulnerable, organic and artificial.

Recent solo institutional exhibitions include Environmental Hangover at Kunsthalle Basel (2022) and Diplomatic Immunity at MASI Lugano (2023). At Kai Matsumiya, he presented Breastfed Tadpole (2018), Sour Ground (2020), and Sadnest (2022). He received the Bally Artist Award in 2023. His monograph Forever Was Today was published by Hatje Cantz in 2024.
