Zoe Pettijohn Schade
Biography
Zoe Pettijohn Schade works primarily in gouache, using repeated forms, intricate patterns, and metallic leaf to explore how individual elements form larger systems. Her paintings and works on paper connect decorative traditions with questions of perception, collective behavior, and self-organization.
Her exhibitions at Kai Matsumiya include Crowds, Shifting Sets, The Hard Problem, Prevailing Bonds, and Grand Sorting. Museum presentations include the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston, the 14th Shanghai Biennale, and the deCordova New England Biennial.
